Experience Huntly

Huntly Ethical Trading Initiative

We are a community group which promotes social and environmental justice by raising awareness of the positive impact each of us can have through the choices we make as consumers.

We recognise the need for innovative approaches to building strong, resilient and sustainable local economies worldwide and for a more equitable global trade system. Mitigating climate change and its impacts is inextricably linked with these aims.

We work with others to organise activities and events which explore these issues and provide information on ethical options available to consumers including products which are Fairtrade, organic, locally produced, recycled, reused, shared etc. (or a combination of these), helping individuals, businesses and institutions make informed purchase and procurement decisions and lifestyle changes.

We coordinate local efforts to maintain Huntly as a Fairtrade Town (first achieved in 2010) and consequently Aberdeenshire as a Fairtrade Zone and Scotland as a Fairtrade Nation. We participate in the Aberdeenshire Fairtrade Steering Group and are members of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum. We celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight each year with special events and have been fortunate over the years to host Fairtrade Producers in Huntly from Kenya, Malawi and Palestine.

We seek to support and work with others; individuals, community groups, businesses, schools, churches and institutions who share our vision. Like to be involved? Please get in touch.
